Obama Recruits Rap Star, Macklemore to Talk About Addiction

President Barack Obama has been known to co-sign rappers from time to time and also has gone a step further by way of inviting some of hip-hop’s elite to the White House in order to discuss serious issues.
Just last month, Obama invited a handful of our favorite artists, such as J. Cole, Pusha T and Nicki Minaj, to the White House to discuss criminal justice reform.

In the most recent installment of the president’s “Weekly Address,” he invited Macklemore to be the next rapper to join him for a conversation discussing a problem in which the American nation has long been plagued: addiction.

Macklemore and Obama came together to discuss opioid use, specifically focusing on the topic of addiction. Macklemore is a former addict and drew on his experiences first hand with the president.

“Addiction is like any other disease, it doesn’t discriminate,” Macklemore said during the discussion. “It doesn’t care what color you are, whether you’re a guy or a girl, rich or poor, whether you live in the inner city, a suburb, or rural America. This doesn’t just happen to other people’s kids or in some other neighborhood. It can happen to any of us.”

Their discussion will be included in a new substance-abuse documentary that is slated to air on MTV later this summer.
