A Romanian
mother and her two-year-old daughter are believed to be the only
survivors on the Brussels Metro carriage that was blown up during this
week’s terror attacks.
Roxana
Stefanuca, 23, of Mileanca, Botosani, is said by her family to have
burns all over her face, while her daughter Miruna suffered similar
injuries and has been given tubes to help her breathe.
The
mother-of-two had taken her older daughter aged five to nursery school
and was on her way back home on the train with Miruna, after having
nobody to leave her with while she went out.
The bomb
went off as they sat in the train on Tuesday morning - and they were the
only survivors in the carriage where 20 people died, after being found
alive under the dead bodies of others.
Mrs
Stefanuca’s sister Anca Cucuruzac said: She’s got burns all over her
face and head. You can only see her eyes. She is in shock, I could only
talk to her for two minutes.
‘The little
girl also suffered burns and she has been given tubes to help her
breathe. My sister and the baby were the only survivors in that wagon.
‘She
remembers a strong noise and a woman covered in blood thrown towards
her. She saw her daughter crying and then lost consciousness.’
